Vietnamese Phonics
Start sound + rhyme + tone = a word!
What your child learns
- Joining a starting sound and a rhyme: b + o = bo
- The six Vietnamese tones and their marks
- Two-letter starting sounds (ch, nh, ng, th, tr, kh, gh) and longer rhymes
- Sounding out words the way Vietnamese first grade does
How to play
- Look at the picture and listen to the word (tap the picture to hear it again).
- Drag the start sound, rhyme and tone tiles into the boxes of the same colour (or tap a tile, then a box). Tap a tile to hear it.
- When the word is complete, listen to it sounded out: "bờ – o – bo – huyền – bò".
For parents
- Sounds and words are always read in Vietnamese; instructions follow the voice you choose.
- Early levels use words without tone marks; tones and two-letter sounds come later.
- Sounds that are pronounced the same (c/k, s/x, ch/tr, d/r in the northern accent) are never used as tricks against each other.
