Picture Sudoku
Every row and column has each picture once. Which one is missing?
What your child learns
- Reasoning by elimination: a picture already in the row or column cannot go in the gap
- Looking across rows and down columns at the same time
- Getting started with sudoku using pictures instead of numbers
- Working step by step until the whole grid is full
How to play
- The spot with an orange outline can be worked out right away; tap another empty spot to switch. Its row and column light up.
- Pick a picture from the row of choices to fill it in.
- A wrong pick gives a gentle shake and shows the picture it clashes with; just try another one.
- Fill the whole grid to win. Two or fewer clashing picks and no hint earns a star.
For parents
- The first grids are 3×3 with only a few gaps; later ones are 4×4, then add the block rule (each 2×2 corner of the grid).
- Every grid has exactly one solution, so it can always be worked out without guessing.
- Suggest looking for a row or column that is missing just one picture first.
- On a computer, use the arrow keys to move between spots and the number keys 1–4 to pick a picture.
