High or Low
Which bird sings higher? Listen closely and pick!
What your child learns
- Hearing high and low notes: early ear training for pitch
- Hearing whether a three-note tune goes up or down
- Hearing whether two notes are the same or different
- Listening carefully, and listening again when unsure
How to play
- Press "Play now" and turn the sound on. The birds on the branch sing one after another.
- First, tap the bird that sings higher. Both birds sit at the same height, so your child has to listen, not look.
- Later, pick the stairs going up or going down, then pick same or different. On a computer, keys 1 and 2 work too.
- Press "Listen again" to hear the birds again. After the answer, the bird with the higher note hops up higher.
For parents
- It starts with two notes an octave apart (very easy to hear), then narrows to a fifth and then a third.
- Young children often say "loud" when they mean "high". Remind them: high and low are about the voice going up or down, loud and quiet are about how strong it is.
- Sing high and low together, raising and lowering your hands with your voice.
- This game needs sound: with sound off, it shows a reminder to turn it on. Headphones or a speaker help your child hear clearly.
